When life changes the plan

Life events

A life event is a guided plan for a big change. It gathers the changes you need into one place, and nothing is applied until you choose it and everyone affected agrees.

Guided events for the big moments

Each guided event suggests the changes that usually come with it. Every suggestion is opt-in.

  • Income change: update your income from a date, preview the new shares, or set a temporary split. Pause goal contributions if you need to.
  • New baby or dependant: presets for nappies and formula, crèche, a medical aid dependant and a baby goal, then a prompt to revisit the split.
  • Buying a car: vehicle presets for finance, insurance, licence, fuel and service, a deposit goal, and your forecast with the new costs before you commit.
  • Moving house or buying a home: end rent or a bond from a date, add the new home’s presets and one-off costs, and a deposit goal.
  • A roommate moves in or out: the lease, deposit and split changes.

Nothing happens by default

Shared changes go through the normal approval, and every affected member approves. Personal changes are yours to choose.

  • Your income update is your own. Others can see that it exists, never the amount.
  • Homora does not simulate loans or interest. Affordability is your personal disposable forecast with the new costs in it.
  • Editing an event’s name, note or date never undoes anything already applied.

Make your own

Create an event for anything that changes your money, such as “Started studying”, “Mom moves in” or “Sabbatical”. Give it a name, a date, an optional note, and choose personal or household.

  • Add costs, monthly, yearly or one-off, or end a cost from a date.
  • Change a cost’s amount from a date.
  • Propose a split change, add a goal or savings box, or pause and resume contributions.
  • Update your income, or leave a note on the timeline.
  • Save it as a personal or household template and reuse it.

Temporary splits

A split change can carry a last day. The day after it, the split that applied before comes back on its own, for the household default and for a single cost or goal.

  • For example: 60 and 40 for four months, then back to 50 and 50.
  • The household is told once when a temporary split has run out.
  • It is proposed and approved like any other split change.

A timeline that explains later months

Guided and custom events sit on one timeline, personal and household, each with its date and status: planned, in progress or done. Moving in together and leaving a household appear there too.

  • Later months make sense: “Groceries went up in March: baby arrived”.
  • The others in your household are told when an event is made, when its changes are applied and when it is done.
  • A personal event is yours alone.
Premium

Starting an event, its timeline and templates are free, and the changes inside follow their own plan rules, so an equal split is free and a custom split is Premium.

Questions people ask

Do I need Premium to use life events?

No. Starting an event and using its timeline and templates are free. A change inside an event follows its own plan rule, for example a custom split is Premium.

Will an event change my budget without asking?

No. Every change is opt-in, and a change that affects other members becomes a proposal they approve first. Your own income update waits for its date.

Who can see an event?

A personal event is visible only to you. Any current member can make, edit and apply a household event, and a former member can read the events dated while they belonged.

What happens when a temporary split ends?

The day after its last day, the split that applied before comes back on its own, and the household is told once.
